The Ghorepani Poon Hill to Upper Mustang Trek is an immensely popular long trek where you can explore the 2 major trekking regions ( Annapurna and Mustang). Poon Hill (3,210m) is the ultimate viewing point for the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tukuche, Varaha Shikhar, and Lamjung Himal.
Hidden behind the majestic Himalayan ranges of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, Mustang is filled with beautiful trekking zones. Organized treks are only allowed into the region, and those require an expensive trekking permit. The brown landscape, jagged peaks, and mud-walled villages are reminders of what Tibet must have been like before the Chinese invasion.
The Upper Mustang trek via Ghorepani Poon Hill is at relatively not high altitude (3,000m to 3,800m), which is somehow intensified by the dry air. While it is no problem for those born at this altitude to travel at speed, visitors will be more leisurely in their hike to avoid any altitude related problems.
On average walking takes place from 5 to 7 hours a day and some paths are particularly windy and dusty. But this trek into the restricted area of Upper Mustang, which in part follows the ancient salt route, is something that will remain in ones memory forever.
